How multitasking really works on Android and iOS
Good quick read on the differences between the two mobile platforms…
As the horsepower packed into mobile devices gets ever greater, more full-featured forms of multitasking are possible. The market leaders have very different ways of going about things, and there are numerous misconceptions about what is going on behind the scenes. This isn’t all the fault of the user, though. In the interest of ease of use, sometimes the multitasking metaphor is overly simplified on both Android and iOS.

Houston fifth in nation for total personal income
I wonder how this relates to the unemployment numbers for the Houston area…
The total personal income for individuals living in the Houston region grew 3.1 percent between 2009 and 2010, according to figures released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The bureau released total personal income data for 366 metropolitan areas. Total personal income is the income received by all people from all sources in a given year.
Personal income among the metro areas increased 2.9 percent in 2010 after falling 1.9 percent in 2009, according to the data.
Houston was No. 5 among the top areas, with total personal income of $281.8 billion, up from $273.2 billion in 2009.

Why you shouldn’t buy a cheap Android phone
Pretty interesting read…
One of the primary reasons for Android’s huge success is the sheer choice of hardware. If you fancy a slide-out keyboard, it can be yours. A big screen and the fastest internals possible? That can be arranged as well. Even if all you want is a simple, inexpensive smartphone that doesn’t break the bank, there is an Android phone for you. As enticing as a free smartphone might be at first, you’re asking for trouble down the line. Let’s talk about the perils of going cheap on Android.

Newest Houston Apple Store now delayed until March
If Jobs was still around this would never happen…
Apple still won’t discuss — much less confirm — a new Houston store being built in Highland Village, but a source familiar with the company’s plans says the opening has been delayed several months.Last May, Prime Property reported the store was expected to open in the fall. Now, the debut is set for March, the source said.Still shroud in black draping, the new Apple outpost at the northwest corner of Westheimer and Drexel would be the city’s first stand-alone store. The top-secret design is supposed to be a prototype for future stores in the chain.Houston blogger Tracy Evans recently posted a rendering of the building based on “dozens of photos and several trips to the construction site to verify details.”

Children’s Museum of Houston is #1 in the nation – Video

I’ve met with some of the people who help run the Children’s Museum of Houston and I can attest that they are very serious about what they do… the facility is absolutely amazing. If you have never visited, I recommend you go check it out – regardless if you have kids of your own. The first time I was there I think I must have spent an entire day there playing with the exhibits myself – some of them are really cool.
Here’s a video summary of CMH:

Watch out! AT&T throttles speeds for heavy mobile data users

Something to watch out for… looks like “unlimited data” is really dead these days…
Posted by tech enthusiast site CultofMac, a text message sent by AT&T to such a user says that "Your data usage is among the top 5 percent of users. Data speeds for the rest of your current bill cycle may be reduced."The data restriction policy comes as no surprise. AT&T had announced back in July that it would throttle speeds for heavy data users starting on October 1. The policy affects only subscribers who still have an unlimited data plan. Those with limited data plans who go over their allotment are simply charged for the extra data.AT&T has not made it clear how much data youd need to gobble up to appear in the top 5 percent, but the carrier has said that such users consume around 12 times more data than the average customer.

Swype not coming to Galaxy Nexus until next year!

Oh no!
I actually haven’t seen anything official on plans for ICS but I think I’m not out of line in saying that we fully plan on deploying on ICS and devices with the resolution if the Galaxy Nexus. Might make the next update, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we won’t support out until next year.
