Not a complete guide, but enough to get you started…
All GM vehicles built since 2007 (and many built before then) are equipped with OnStar modules, which have a built-in GPS receiver. For a long time, various folks have wanted to use that GPS receiver for their own purposes. In older OnStar modules, it was possible to take apart the module and access the GPS receiver’s serial port. This allowed the extraction of GPS information from the module. The downside was that the GPS would no longer work with OnStar. However, if you had a vehicle with OnStar but weren’t subscribing to the service, this was a viable option.
The cost of GPS units has plummeted since OnStar was first introduced. Therefore, hacking the OnStar system to extract GPS information has lost a lot of the appeal. It’s really not worth the time and effort. However, it does seem kind of silly to have a GPS on your car and not be able to use it. So, for those who want to waste their time and effort, read on.

Its amazing how reliable these things were…

This comic pretty much sums it up… its amazing how much stuff they show there and how little of it makes it to market – so its at least good to see how the industry is thinking about things as a whole…

Thinking about visiting Houston? Watch this…

I guess we all need to watch less TV now too…

What happens when people start watching less television? Do they eat less? Exercise more? Sleep better?
That is what researchers at the University of Vermont set out to learn in a fascinating six week study to monitor television viewing, physical activity and eating habits. As it turns out, watching less TV doesn’t necessarily lead to more exercise or better eating habits, but it does result in subtle but meaningful changes in overall activity levels, according to a new study in The Archives of Internal Medicine.

Sometime in the early 2000’s I had the privilege of touring Skywalker ranch (and even eating lunch there)… I wasn’t allowed to take any photos and was stuck with trying to describe and explain what I saw to people…
Below you can see some video of the place, its really as peaceful and tranquil as this video makes it seems – its practically silent there even though there are 100’s of people working there (a lot of them underground).
